On Thursday, May 7th, the Ringsend and Irishtown community took a major step. Codema officially inaugurated the Raytown Energy Dock, marking the debut of Dublinโs very first community-based energy advice clinic.
Hosted as a lively coffee morning at the Ringsend and Irishtown Community Centre cafรฉ, the launch event brought together approximately 60 attendees eager to discover this brand-new, accessible service.
Trusted, accessible energy advice right on your doorstep
The Raytown Energy Dock was designed as a practical response to rising energy costs, energy poverty, and the clear need for an equitable local energy transition. Operating straight out of the familiar and welcoming setting of the community centre, the clinic provides residents with a trusted, independent space to get a handle on their home energy use.
Moving forward, the clinic will support local residents through tailored, one-to-one advice sessions covering:
- Demystifying energy bills and navigating supplier switching.
- Identifying low-cost, energy-saving actions around the home.
- Accessing SEAI grants for larger home energy upgrades and retrofits.
An immediate impact: Proving just how vital this service is to the neighborhood, the advice clinic was completely booked out for two full weeks immediately following the launch!
From advice to action: 60 Home energy starter kits distributed
The launch wasn’t just about sharing information; it was about delivering immediate, practical tools. The Codema team distributed 60 Home energy starter kits to attendees, packed with tangible items to help households start saving energy and cutting costs right away. The kits included:
- LED lightbulbs to cut electricity use.
- Draught excluders and proofing strips to eliminate cold spots.
- Shower timers to keep water and heating costs in check.
The impressive turnout was driven by a widespread local promotion campaign, which included email outreach, local media coverage, and a massive leaflet drop reaching more than 6,000 neighborhood households. This effort successfully kickstarted vital relationships with local stakeholders, financial advice services, frontline organizations, and SEAI Sustainable Energy Community networks.
Beyond its immediate benefits to Ringsend and Irishtown, this launch serves as a brilliant blueprint for REGEN. By testing a place-based approach, the Raytown Energy Dock demonstrates exactly how local advice services can break down barriers, build public trust, and empower communities to confidently participate in the climate transition.
