On the 21 of July 2026, REGEN took part in an inspiring day on Urban Regeneration as part of the Summer Courses at the University of Cantabria, within the framework of the European REGEN EU Project.

The session brought together academic, technological and local perspectives to explore how urban regeneration can help create more inclusive, equitable and resilient neighbourhoods. The experience of the REGEN Project in Puebla Vieja, Laredo, provided a practical example of these challenges and opportunities.

Key topics addressed

The discussions focused on:

• The role of technology in urban transformation.
• How regeneration can contribute to equality and spatial justice.
• The importance of citizen participation and digital tools.
• The need to put people at the centre of urban transformation.

The event created a valuable space for dialogue between research, technology, public authorities and local communities, highlighting the importance of combining technical expertise with citizens’ knowledge and needs.

The discussions generated strong interest and a constructive exchange of ideas on how urban regeneration can deliver more inclusive and resilient places.

The key takeaway is clear: technology and expertise are essential, but successful regeneration starts by listening to people. Combining science, technical knowledge and active participation is fundamental to building more just and resilient cities.
