Bringing energy support closer to citizens

How local energy support can help citizens better understand their energy bills and navigate the transition towards more sustainable communities.

As part of its engagement with local communities, the REGEN project supported a local energy information and assistance event in the Giambellino–Lorenteggio area of Milan, bringing practical energy support closer to residents.

The event, “Hai problemi con la bolletta?” (Having problems with your energy bill?), took place on 13 June 2026 at the Sagra del Giambellino, Milan. Organized with AMAT & Sportello Energia of the Municipality of Milan, the initiative offered residents the opportunity to receive free assistance and guidance on their energy bills.

Bringing energy support closer to citizens

Understanding energy bills, identifying unexpected costs and knowing where to seek support can be challenging for households. Local initiatives such as the Sportello Energia provide a direct way for residents to access practical information and discuss their individual concerns.

The event created a space where citizens could ask questions and receive personalised assistance, helping make energy-related information more accessible and understandable.

This type of direct engagement is particularly relevant to the objectives of REGEN, which places people, participation and local communities at the centre of the transition towards more sustainable and resilient urban environments.

From information to empowerment

Providing information is an important first step, but meaningful engagement also means giving people the tools and confidence to act.

By helping residents better understand their energy consumption and bills, local energy support initiatives can contribute to:

  • Greater awareness of household energy use
  • Better understanding of energy costs
  • Access to practical advice and support
  • More informed energy-related decisions
  • Stronger citizen participation in the energy transition

The Milan event demonstrates how community-based initiatives can connect broader sustainability objectives with the everyday challenges faced by citizens.

Supporting a more inclusive energy transition

The energy transition is not only about technologies, infrastructure and new solutions. It also depends on whether people have access to the information and support they need to participate in this transformation.

For REGEN, activities involving local residents provide valuable opportunities to understand community needs, encourage dialogue and explore approaches that can make the transition more inclusive, accessible and people-centred.

The Sagra del Giambellino event is one example of how local engagement can turn broad sustainability ambitions into practical support for communities.

Continuing the dialogue with local communities

Through initiatives such as the Sportello Energia, residents can access support while local organisations gain a better understanding of the questions, concerns and needs emerging from the community.

These exchanges are an important part of building communities that are better equipped to navigate the energy transition.

REGEN will continue to support engagement and collaboration with local communities, helping connect people, knowledge and innovative approaches for a more sustainable future.
