From October 8–10, 2025, Milan will host Sustainable Places 2025, a key event bringing together researchers, companies, and institutions to explore sustainable urban transformation.
Last year, we were thrilled to participate so this year we’re back with three of our partners co-organizing the event (R2M IT, R2M FR and Comune di Milano).

Below, discover our three contributions to the event:

REGEN’s role: Speaker (Derya Yilmaz from LIST)
- Description: This session will explore how R&D projects are putting New European Bauhaus (NEB) values into practice. Participants will exchange experiences on tools and approaches, covering topics such as urban planning, energy communities, material reuse, and indoor air quality monitoring.
- Purpose: The discussion will highlight what works, what challenges remain, and how these insights can guide future projects, fostering innovation and collaboration in sustainable urban transformation.
- Our contribution: From our side, we will present our contributions within the project, including:
- Neighbourhood Regeneration Offices (NROs): physical spaces combining technical support and community engagement in four demo sites across Luxembourg, Ireland, Italy, and Spain
- City Intelligences Lab: digital, participatory tools for re-designing public spaces
- Participatory methods and co-creation approaches we developed to foster sustainable behavior change and inclusive urban transformation

REGEN’s roles : Moderator (Coralie Vella from R2M FR) and speaker (Sylvain Kubicki, our project coordinator)
- Description: Following the successful first edition held at SP2024, we are organizing this workshop and are delighted that eight other EU-funded projects have accepted to join us for a discussion on creating a more inclusive, sustainable, and high-quality built environment.
- Purpose: The workshop will focus on the urgent need for neighbourhood regeneration aligned with sustainability, inclusivity, and low-carbon goals. It aims to foster collaboration between projects and stakeholders to co-design solutions that can be scaled up from individual buildings to entire neighbourhoods.
- Our contribution: On one hand, as the organizer of this workshop, we will moderate the entire session. On the other hand, Sylvain, our coordinator, will follow the same process as the other participants, and we will have the pleasure of presenting REGEN and answering Coralie’s questions.

- Description: Our preliminary results show that Neighbourhood Regeneration Offices (NROs) combine two core functions: supporting rehabilitation and community-building. By merging these functions, NROs provide both practical tools and opportunities for social interaction, creating a unique model for urban regeneration. They act as a bridge between technical support and community engagement, making neighbourhood transformation shared, accessible, and sustainable in the long term.
- Purpose: In our presentation, we will provide an overview of the state-of-the-art analysis of existing models such as ‘one-stop shops’ and ‘third places’, explaining how NROs build on and expand these concepts.
- Our contribution: We will present the definition of NROs, their value proposition, and key activities, illustrating how they align with New European Bauhaus principles. Finally, we will introduce the NRO business model, supported by emerging examples from our four demo sites across Europe, highlighting their potential as an attractive and replicable model for urban regeneration.
We look forward to sharing our work and exchanging ideas with you at Sustainable Places 2025 !
