In early November, TECNALIA contributed to two major events, highlighting the innovative work carried out within the REGEN project on the regeneration of Laredo’s Old Town. The participation spanned both the II Jornadas de la red Urban Mome (3–4 November) and the Smart City Expo (4–6 November) in Barcelona.
Presenting the Digital Twin for Laredo
During the Urban Mome network sessions, TECNALIA delivered a presentation showcasing the digital twin developed for Laredo’s Old Town. This digital tool is designed to support urban regeneration across multiple stages, offering functionalities for diagnosis, monitoring, simulation, and prediction.
The presentation highlighted practical applications of the digital twin in key areas such as:
- Energy simulations to optimize efficiency and plan interventions.
- Solar potential simulations to support sustainable energy solutions.
- Walkability analysis measuring distances to essential services.
- Real-time mobility monitoring using Dynicont sensor data.
- Mobility forecasting through AI-based predictions.
- MUST tool adaptation for participatory diagnosis in the Laredo context.
Attendees appreciated the demonstration of how the digital twin integrates with the adapted MUST tool to enhance citizen participation and evidence-based urban planning.
A special thank you goes to IREC – Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya, Jaume Salom, and the rest of the team for hosting these sessions, as well as to Silvia Soutullo and MªJosé Taboada from CIEMAT for coordinating the network itself.
Networking and Project Dissemination at Smart City Expo
At the Smart City Expo, TECNALIA engaged in networking activities, sharing insights from the REGEN project and exploring collaboration opportunities. The discussions sparked particular interest in synergies with the WeGenerate project, a sister initiative focusing on sustainable urban development.
As a direct outcome, TECNALIA was invited to participate in a WeGenerate networking event on 4 December 2025, strengthening connections with key partners, including IREC (Institut Recerca en Energia, Catalonia).
Impact on REGEN
These contributions underline TECNALIA’s role in promoting digital solutions for urban regeneration and demonstrate the tangible benefits of connecting projects, technologies, and local communities. By showcasing the Laredo case, TECNALIA reinforced the REGEN project’s visibility, shared practical insights, and opened pathways for further collaboration with European partners.
