Laredo is one of the main tourist destinations on the Cantabrian coast. It has one of the biggest and most beautiful beaches in the region: La Salvé, an immense stretch of sand measuring approximately five kilometres.

The town is structured into three very different zones: (i) the old village and its neighbourhood called La Puebla Vieja, (ii) the area of the newer suburbs and (iii) the extension of the suburbs towards El Puntal. It is in the first of these areas, La Puebla Vieja, where the REGEN demo will be implemented. La Puebla Vieja was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1971 for its “historical preponderance” combining mansions, palace towers, churches and monasteries.
