In the face of escalating socio-economic disparities and the threat of climate change, European cities grapple with urgent challenges. Ageing infrastructure, inefficient energy systems and unsustainable urban planning exacerbate environmental degradation and hinder progress towards carbon neutrality. In this context, the EU-funded REGEN project aims to decarbonise European neighbourhoods and cities by employing a multifaceted toolbox powered by digital technologies and sustainability assessments.

The project’s holistic approach involves citizen engagement and behavioural change, alongside innovative methodologies like digital twins and life cycle sustainability assessments. With a focus on 50 urban regeneration interventions, REGEN pioneers a comprehensive Assessment Framework for Urban Regeneration. Demonstrations across four sites and virtual projects ensure scalability and robust policy insights.
